Crafty Mother's Day Ideas!

Cute Mother's Day ideas from the Queen of Crafts...Martha Stewart!
(I can't wait to see what my daughter drew of us!)

And another idea from Martha Stewart:
An Iron On Tote Bag
(Or Let Children Make their own designs)
A cloth bag makes a natural canvas for young artists. This iron-on design spurs their self-expression, with its coloring book-style outlines and the start of a sweet sentiment: "Mom, I love you because..."

Permanent markers work nicely. Just cover the table with butcher paper, and slip sheets of scrap paper inside the tote to prevent the ink from bleeding.

Tools and Materials

Avery Dark T-Shirt Transfers, for white-on-dark transfers
Epson Iron-On Cool Peel Transfer Paper, for basic transfer

Natural-fiber (such as cotton) tote bags
Scissors or craft knife
Ironed pillowcase
Iron
Sharpie markers in assorted colors
Basic Iron-On Transfer Technique

1. Download clip art, and print it onto transfer paper. (Images will appear in reverse.) Using scissors or a craft knife, cut loosely around the designs, leaving a 1/8-inch border.

2. Lay an ironed pillowcase on a table or other hard, heat-resistant surface (not an ironing board, which has too much padding).

3. Place an ironed bag on pillowcase. Arrange cutout designs face-down on bag, avoiding seams or pockets.

4. With an iron set on high and no steam, slowly iron on designs, applying firm, even pressure (follow the transfer-paper manufacturer's instructions). Let cool. Remove paper backings.

Margarita Cake

margarita cake
Yield: 16 servings
Prep Time: 25 min Cook Time: 30 min
Here's a delicious Mexican-style cake that doesn't start with a cake mix! It is a nice, light cake with a touch of margarita flavor on top. Don't skip the whipped cream and the cute lime slice garnish.

Ingredients:
CAKE:
1 3/4 cups granulated white sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1 Tablespoon grated lemon zest
1 Tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup plain or lemon-flavored yogurt

LIME GLAZE AND ASSEMBLY:
1/2 cup superfine granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons lime juice, freshly squeezed
1 Tablespoon water
1 Tablespoon tequila
whipped cream and lime slices, for garnish (optional)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch cake pan.

2. Prepare cake: Combine sugar, butter, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl and beat until blended. add the eggs 1 at a time, beating well and scraping the bowl after each addition. Mix in the lemon zest and lemon juice. Add the flour and yogurt alternately, beating well after each addition.

3. Spoon the batter into prepared pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes.

4. Prepare glaze: Combine sugar, lime juice and water in a saucepan and mix well. Cook until the sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Stir in the tequila.

5. Assembly: Invert the warm cake onto a serving platter and brush with the glaze until it is absorbed. Let stand until cool. Slice and garnish each serving with a twisted lime slice and a dollop of whipped cream.

Tips:
*If you’re having trouble inverting the cake onto a serving platter, or if you’re afraid that it might fall apart, it’s ok to just spoon the glaze over the top of the cake while it’s in the pan. Then cut neat slices and transfer to a serving platter.
*If you don't cook with alcohol, it's okay to leave it out & just make a lime glaze to drizzle on top.
*If you don't not have superfine sugar and don't wish to purchase it at your market, simply place regular granulated white sugar in your blender and give it a few whirs until it turns into superfine sugar!

Beer and Margarita Popsicles

This idea has P-A-R-T-T-Y all over it!
I think these frozen concoctions are good for year round parties!!!
Thank you BakersRoyale for a great idea!

Here’s how to make Corona Beer Pops:

Open a bottle and pour it into any form, wait 2 hours for it to solidify slightly and insert a  popsicle stick and freeze for another 2 hours or until becomes solid.

Strawberry Margarita Popsicles

No recipe, just an easy entertaining idea that requires some Dixie cups, popsicles sticks and Mike’s Hard Lemonade Strawberry Margarita. As a side note, the traditional margarita made with Tequila needs a much colder temperature to freeze than the tradtional home unit allows, so that’s why something like these Mike’s Hard Lemonade is better suited for making these popsicles.

To assemble: Pour and freeze the Strawberry Margarita for two hours then insert the popsicle sticks in the middle. Freeze for another two hours or until the Strawberry Margarita Popsicles solidify. Garnish with a lime and serve.

Small note, do not rim with salt until serving time as the salt will melt the pops. Alternatively, you can rim the Strawberry Margarita Pops with chunky crystal sugar for an aesethetic effect without worrying about the melting factor.

To keep popsicles chilled as long as possible, place the serving tray in the freezer and then top  the tray with a layer of crushed iced.

Cheers!
